Kos Still Hasn't Donated $$$ to Obama
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 02:46:55 PM PDT
A few weeks ago, Kos made a bit of a stink about some stances taken by Barack Obama that didn't sit well with him. As a result, he posted something of a diatribe about Obama not earning his donation and claimed he wouldn't donate $2,300 for the primary (and the subsequent $2,300 for the general election) until Obama earned it.
Time is running out. Primary donations are due. The deadline is September 1st, I believe. It seems petulant, self-centered, childish and downright foolish to withhold financial support from Obama at this late date if you can afford to give.

Bark for Obama: dog art fundraising UPDATE
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 11:03:32 AM PDT
It's amazing how Obama inspires so many musicians, painters, animators, designers and film artists.
I've done phone calling and lots of community chattering to boost the campaign efforts. But I wanted to contribute artistic energy. So, a few months ago, I designed some T shirts, mouse pads, etc with desire to promote Obama's campaign.
I realize not everyone can afford to donate all of their own art proceeds to the campaign. Creative people have to pay their bills, too. But some artists donate percentages. So I wondered if I could spend some time creating, generate donations for Obama, and still earn a little in order to keep designing.
I began with the subjects I love. Birds, dogs, cats. More below.
Obama Calls His 2 Millionth Donor
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 10:17:36 AM PDT
In case you missed it, Barack Obama's historic grassroots fundraising operation passed a huge milestone last week: two million donors. It's people like us, the ones giving $10 and $20 at a time, who allow him to run a truly publicly financed campaign while enjoying even greater monetary advantages than his opponent, a candidate funded by special interests and lobbyists.
Ed Prouty of New Hampshire was the two millionth person to donate to the campaign. He's a contractor who specializes in HVAC, and since I used to work for a plumbing and HVAC supplier in the area, I feel like it could've been me. It could've been any of us.
His reward? A phone call from Sen. Obama himself, thanking him for the contribution.
How Not To Be An ATM Machine
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 10:13:41 AM PDT
I am supporting a number of candidates in my state this year. Not surprisingly, all of their campaigns have websites and links to donate online. (Because, as we all know, the internet a magic money-making machine, where pennie grow on pixels.) I signed up for each campaign's email distribution list. Not surprisingly, all I have received from most of the campaigns are pleas for money.
I would guess that few of these campaigns have a clue about online anything. I thought about sending an email and helpfully trying to explain it all to them, but...been there, done that, not much in the way of results. So I thought about it a bit, and here is what I've decided to do in the future:
I Just Committed Myself to Barack Obama
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 06:20:05 AM PDT
...and so should you. I just signed up to be part of his Grassroots Finance Committee, pledging to raise at least $1,000 for Obama's campaign this fall. I signed up after receiving this note in the mail from his campaign:
Join the Grassroots Finance Committee (GFC), a core group of dedicated supporters who are setting a personal goal to raise $1,000 each in small-dollar donations.
Barack is relying on ordinary people giving only what they can afford to support this movement. Join the GFC and reach out to your network of friends, family, and neighbors and encourage them to make a donation and own a piece of this campaign.
I immediately knew it was something I had to do. But I decided to make the job a tiniest bit tougher myself, and set another condition on how I raise this money, and I hope you join me in this pledge:
This Diary Should Never Be Written. (Final Update)
Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 05:54:58 AM PDT
Imagine, if you will, giving the best years of your youth to your government, fighting for your life overseas, and seeing friends and enemies die on what seems like a daily basis. When your responsibilities end, you return home to your small midwestern town, only to find out that no one can give you a job - the economy is trashed, they have nothing to offer.
A friend, however, says that he's heard there are jobs in California.
You take the majority of what is left of your savings and your money from the government and buy a pickup that can make it across a few states without breaking down. When you make it out to California with a few hundred dollars to your name, you find you cannot afford a permanent place to live.
Then you find out that no one's willing to give you a job without a permanent address to your name.
Soon, you're living out of the only asset you have to your name - your truck.
It's not long before you have to sell your truck, however, just so you have money for food.
Now, you're one of a growing number in this country: 20-some year old homeless Iraqi veterans.
Obama Fundraising: Dramatic 7 Figure Decrease
Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 10:08:34 AM PDT
Washington, Aug 16 (Filed with concern by a friend of the AP)
The Obama campaign, demonstrating once again that it is in increasingly serious trouble, reported a dramatic 7 figure decrease in fundraising in July.
July: DNC $27.7 mil, Obama $51 mil.

McCain Campaign's PATHETIC reponse to the military donation story
Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 11:21:35 AM PDT
In case you missed it, a very interesting money story broke today Showing that Obama is out-raising McCain 6-1 among active duty military members serving overseas)( read Troutfishing's Diary on the rec list)
This is a VERY big deal, which The McCain Campaign must have recognized, so they rushed to respond. badly
McCain's campaign says he's been "endorsed by more retired admirals and generals than Barack Obama has military donors."
Which is not only a Lie (CRP esitmates Obama's had at least 854 donors the most generous reading of McCain's "admirals and Generals list" yields a 150 names) but AWFULLY elitist and dismissive of the rank and file soldier no?
but not content to leave it there, McCain’s campaign unleashes a howler worthy of standing alongside Tom Delay's infamous "I wanted to go to Vietnam but the Army said they were full" whopper
Obama Fundraising Nuttiness

Yes We Can!! Almost at 2 Million Donors!!

Just got this email from barackobama.com:
You soaked me for $1,355.00 [Updated 3x]
Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 07:16:18 AM PDT
This is just a quick follow-up to yesterday's snarky fundraiser, 7 worrisome signs for Barack Obama. In that diary, I promised to donate $1 to Barack Obama for every recommend I received on 8/11/08.
Well, you sure know how to make a guy pay. And pay. And pay some more. 1,355 recommends later, my heart (and my wallet) are substantially lighter.
Even better, 61 Kossacks donated through my mybarackobama.com personal fundraising page and outdid me to the tune of $1,408!.
That's 2,763 worrisome signs for John McCain. Dollar signs, that is.
