Michigan Republicans have a secret plan...
Sun Feb 25, 2007 at 08:00:21 AM PDT
...to end our budget deficit. Perhaps we should look at changing the definition of "trickle-down", because that is probably where these cuts will end up- right on you.
Why the need for secrecy?
State Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop says he has compiled a list of $900 million worth of spending cuts to balance the state's budget -- he just doesn't want to share the list with the public yet.
Bishop, a Rochester Republican, said his colleagues in the GOP-controlled Senate have pieced together a budget-balancing plan that contains no new taxes, no fee increases and no budgetary "gimmicks." But his proposal to eliminate the current $900 million deficit has not been unveiled to taxpayers or the governor.
"I haven't made it public because I feel the proper thing to do is to have discussions with our legislative colleagues and the governor. This is an ongoing process of negotiations," said Bishop, who took over the Senate leadership post in January.
When Bishop spoke by telephone with Gov. Jennifer Granholm on Thursday, he did not share the details of the GOP plan.
The REAL campaign for Michigan begins Tuesday
Sun Feb 04, 2007 at 07:27:48 AM PDT
This is it.
This is the battle for our future.
What happens in the next few months will define the quality of life in our state for years to come.
The framework will be set in the State of the State speech Tuesday, and Granholm had better bring her "A" game to the table. Given the tone of the opposition in response to the release of that bipartisan All-Star panel 19-page report, a report correctly entitled "Michigan's Defining Moment", a report that spells out in detail the crisis we are dealing with, she is going to need it.
This Isn't My First Rodeo -- Congrats, Gov. Granholm

I couldn't find a transcript of today's press conference, or Rumsfeld's own personal thumping. I transcribed the best part below.
David Gregory:
"You acknowledge that this is a message election on the war in Iraq... Last week the VP pointed out that you and he aren't running for anything any more and it's 'full speed ahead' on Iraq. So which is it? Are you listening to the voters or are you listening to the Vice President? And what does that mean?"
Bush:
"People want their Congressman to be honest and ethical... I am making a change in the Secretary of Defense to bring a fresh perspective as to how to achieve what I think most Americans want which is a victory..."
Uh huh. More below the fold:

MI-GOV: IT CAME FROM BEYOND...
Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 03:35:17 AM PDT
Is it morning in America yet? I sure hope so because it's getting real cramped inside this Dick's head.
Please do what you can today to ensure that tomorrow is the Final Episode of the Disembodied Head of Dick Devos.
FOLLOWING THE POLLS: THE FINAL EDITION!!
Mon Nov 06, 2006 at 05:20:16 PM PDT
Poll open in less than 12 hours, and this marks the final edition of FTP. Has it only been about six weeks? Good lord, it seemed like a second job on some days, including today (of course) as we see the final push of polls before the "only poll that matters"...tomorrow.
Cautionary note--I am sure I have missed a few. Sorry. Today was a work day, and I also had a few other obligations today. I got what I could, which is two national polls and over 50 individual races.
Follow me below the fold for the last of it.....
MI-Gov New Poll Has Granholm Only Up By 2 Points
Mon Nov 06, 2006 at 01:24:35 PM PDT
A
new poll released today by
Mitchell Research has DeVos trailing Granholm by TWO POINTS. Make sure you vote!!!
As the article notes, this poll puts Granholm barely holding a 2 point lead, which is within the margin of error. As for Mitchell Research, they seem legitimate enough, and apparently had polls showing Kerry winning Michigan in 2004 by 3 points more than he did, so they seem to check out. For reference, in 2002 polls consistently showed Granholm up 10 points and she came in around 4 points up.
The Republicans are squealing over this poll. Let's make darn sure we crush their glee tomorrow with a massive Democratic turnout.
CT-SEN: Polimetrix says Joe 48, Ned 44 + other races
Mon Nov 06, 2006 at 01:00:11 PM PDT
I don't see that anyone has reported this yet. It's showing at the top of recent polls at Pollster.com...
Polimetrix, as part of the Cooperative Congressional Election Study, which brings together prominent political science researchers from around the country to do a massive national poll just before the election, has a raft of results just released. But I thought the one everyone most wants to hear is this one {pdf}:
Lieberman 48
Lamont 44
Schlesinger 5
DO NOT QUIT!

MI-Gov Granholm's Final Drive
Mon Nov 06, 2006 at 10:30:00 AM PDT
I've had a great time following and writing about the
Gov. Jennifer Granholm reelection campaign from afar this season, and I'll miss it when it's done. But in the meantime, there's work to be done. If you're a Michigander (or Michiganian) in residency (or allegiance), ask yourself: What are you doing to help get out the vote tomorrow? There's less than 36 hours left to go before polls close, and even less time left to help make a difference.
It's now or never and there are many things you can do to make sure we leave no rock unturned, or in this case, no voter left behind. The Michigan Democratic Party needs your help making phone calls and knocking on doors to remind people to vote and to let them know where to vote. You would be surprised how many people forget it's Election Day. If you aren't inclined to call or canvass for Michigan voters, what about offering up a couple of hours to give rides to polls?
Below the fold: More GOTV ideas, an excerpt from a Granholm mailing, and details on where you can go to help re-elect our movie star guv, J. Grho.

MI-GOV Just Say NO to Dick and YES to Jen - Reason #1
Sun Nov 05, 2006 at 09:55:47 PM PDT
(When I started this list and
blog, I did it in the hopes of reaching the average, non-politically involved citizen. I wanted to bring the facts, as they already existed, together and show voters exactly where the candidates stood on the issues. Michiganians have a right to know exactly who they are voting for.
I never imagined how many hours of research, moments of stress ("@$!*^ How am I ever going to come up with 25!"), this would take from me. I still had to go on with my life, job, responsibilities, even with losing my grandfather (my inspiration for
#15) in the middle of it all. But as I toiled, my resolve strengthened, my dedication deepened, and this list became a true labor of love. I know I've educated myself, and I hope that I've educated and opened even a few people's minds along the way....
FOLLOWING THE POLLS: The Sunday Edition **SUPERSIZED**
Sun Nov 05, 2006 at 03:31:51 PM PDT
Three new national polls, and polling in
47 individual races, marks the penultimate edition of FTP. In so doing, I will also endeavor to alleviate the hand-wringing that strikes so many folks today (myself included).
Follow me below the fold for the numbers, and the analysis.

Campaigns - want to know who's really involved?
Follow the money
The mighty dollar speaks much louder than any sound bite or slogan.
Based on these money trails, which candidate would you rather have working for you?
Dick DeVos = ultra-conservative, out-of-touch, criminally-affliated, laden with special interests.
Jennifer Granholm = progressive, supported by working classes, enriched with hard work and old fashioned elblow grease.
MI-GOV: Dick DeVos Dove Hunt 2006
Sun Nov 05, 2006 at 07:06:27 AM PDT

There I was: hovering high above the Michigan interWeb like a proud but disappointed eagle when a
fast-dodging mourning dove alerted me to this post by some bird-watcher guy. A bird watcher? With a political opinion? Hello in there, Mr. Red-breasted Nuthatch. Let's leave politics to the
politicians ... and the
soap guys.
Anyway, I have to stay on the move, carrying my message to Take Back Michigan (except for the Republican Legislature and Supreme Court) to a state weary of my ads and face. Since the Bird Man of Michigan was silly enough to license his little book report about Dick DeVos as Creative Commons, I have it posted at Disembodied Headquarters followed by my devastating response and a video from The YouTube.
FOLLOWING THE POLLS: The Saturday Edition
Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 03:49:12 PM PDT
A quick-hit version of the FTP diary series today, as we do have a handful of new numbers on this pre-election Saturday.
In all, we have one new national poll and new numbers in a total of 17 individual races. For the first time in a while, the mo' is going to more Republican races than Democratic ones...BUT it is worth noting that the races where there is neutral momentum predominate (4 races to 3...with ten at little to no change), and that it includes some races no one cares about anymore (AZ-GOV/NY-SEN).
Follow me after the jump...
MI-GOV Just Say NO to Dick and YES to Jen - Reason #3

(Check out all 25 Reasons Why at Liberal, Loud and Proud)
China - one of our biggest global competitors.
China - A place that Tricky Dick sent and created thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars.
China - The place that Dick DeVos' Amway calls home.
Michigan - Where Jennifer Granholm is bringing thousands of jobs and millions of dollars to.
Michigan - The place where Jennifer Granholm calls home.
The difference is clear.
Dick DeVos = China
Jennifer Granholm = Michigan
MI-GOV: Dick Devos is a Golddigger: Bling, Music and GOTV
Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 05:00:14 AM PDT
It's down to the final days and on the behalf of Dick "
Oh My God Things Are Falling Apart" Devos, I would like to implore all you dems, libs, progressives, blues, purples and pinks to stay home and encourage your filthy friends not to vote.
Take comfort in the polls and purge your memory of any thought of Fat John Engler's 11th hour wipeout of a 14 pt deficit ... Republicans can't handle deficits any more.
