Cross-posted from Blogging For Michigan

Another day, another $1700-ish!  We are now up to over $2700!

BFM wants to send a special thanks out to DKos and VetVoice, who have sent some donations our way.  We also want to send some love out to GM Truck & Bus, where the folks are really rocking Troop Care!  And of course, thanks to all the rest of you who have donated.

For those of you who are just joining us, Troop Care is our effort to bring a little comfort to Michigan troops who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Here's how it works:

  1. We beg you for money.  Seriously.  We're not proud.
  1. You give us money, because you hate to see us beg.
  1. We get a big shopping list from anysoldier.com.
  1. We shop, pack, and ship to our troops.
  1. Our troops get a little happiness for the holidays.

What kinds of things will be on our shopping list?  Here's a request from a soldier from the UP:

08 Nov 2007:

Our current living conditions are decent as compared to most places. We live in trailers of 2 man rooms. The majority of the soldiers have microwaves and enjoy eating in their rooms. We are a Michigan Unit located in the Upper Peninsula. Yoopers eh....

(Female & Males) razors

loofas (body scrunches for washing)

Johnson's Soft Lotion (Nourishing Renewal Lotion)

Lava Soap, GoJo (we have mechanics :)

Triscuits

Wheat Thins

Trail Mix

Beef jerky

Twizzlers (cherry)

Tea 2 Go

Cheese Nips

Brachs French Burnt Peanuts

Mixed Nuts, Honey Roasted or Salted Peanuts

snack Size Candy Bars

Microwave Mini Bags PopCorn

Flavored Hot Cocoa

Snack Size chips

Special K red berries cereal

Travel Size various cereals

Any Kind of junk food is always welcomed :)

This soldier represents 6 men and 6 women, who will be stationed in Iraq until July 19, 2008.

We have 13 more units to buy for, and so far we've only got about $196 to spend on each one of them.  $196 to purchase, package, and ship to Iraq or Afghanistan.

To reach our goal of $350 per unit, we need another $2,300!

It's so easy to help us!  Can we count on you?

We're doing our part; we've donated, we've blogged, we've begged.  The troops are doing their part.  Now it's time for you to do your part!  Click here to donate now.

I'll be back tomorrow to debunk every possible reason there is to not support our troops.  It won't be pretty.  You might as well just donate to Troop Care now.  Or at least, give us a message of support for our troops.

This is a Blogging For Michigan Troop Care post.  From November 11 through November 25, 2007, Blogging For Michigan will use 100% of every dollar received in the Troop Care fund to purchase and ship items to Michigan troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Learn more about BFM Troop Care here.
